J.D. & M.E. Hill

We farm in the heart of rural Nottinghamshire producing organic beef and retail through our pop-up shop and cafe Fridays-Sundays.

The pedigree native Beef Shorthorn are grazed on old pastures and species rich meadows being fed through the winter months on hay from meadows developed under our higher level environmental scheme. Additionally silage is produced from grass fields sown with added herbs like plantain, chicory, trefoil and others. The various flora grown for feed has numerous benefits, mixed species are very palatable and the animals thrive, some herbs have an effect of reducing parasite burden(we have not needed to treat our animals for several years). The soil micro biome benefits capturing carbon from the atmosphere and improving soil fertility.

Beef is packaged and sold (usually monthly) from the farm fresh or frozen, unfortunately we are unable to take orders for our beef due to high demand.

Our cattle are reared to the highest possible welfare standards reducing stress at various stages of the production cycle. Our beef for sale has not been treated with antibiotics at any stage.

We also offer a pick your own soft fruit farm site through the summer months.

The hay meadow at Ashcroft is open once a year as part of the National Open Gardens for Charity scheme. Come along and discuss our farming methods and see some of our cattle.

We are winners of the Nottinghamshire Wilkinson environmental farming award 2015 and finalists for the silver lapwing award 2016

We are retailing our organic pasture-fed beef (when in stock) on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only, our opening hours are 10am-4pm. Our pop-up farm shop and cafe includes the sale of local seasonal produce, home baked cakes and scones, with pasties made from our minced beef. Our coffees are popular, created using a single origin, fair trade coffee from Honduras. Find us on Instagram @hillsofedingley.
