Fordhall Organic Farm

Fordhall Organic Farm

Fordhall Farm has been run on a grass based system called 'Foggage Farming' for over 40 years. Started by the late Arthur Hollins and now continued by his son, Ben.

This beautiful farm in the north Shropshire countryside sells its grass fed beef and lamb via courier nationwide, or direct through the farm shop.

Not only has Fordhall been farmed by the same family for generations, but it also holds the accolade of being England's first community-owned farm, after it was saved from development in 2006 through an innovative community share scheme.

The outdoor grazing system relies on a vast diversity of grass and herb species within the pasture, in addition to a careful system of rotation.

The land is bound by the River Tern which provides perfect summer grazing ground. During the winter, the cattle and sheep are moved to the higher sandy fields near to the farm, where they graze until the Spring.

Their diets are supplemented only by some additional hay, which is cut from some nearby wildflower meadows that are rented from the Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
